When we think about food co-ops, many things come to mind; supporting the local economy, creating community, or fresh, nutritious food. But one key aspect that sets us apart from conventional grocery stores is the Board of Delegates. Democratically elected by YOU, our member-owners, the Board of Delegates represents the interests of the membership and holds Mariposa accountable to its values. As we look ahead to the future of Mariposa, we need voices from new member-owners and those with long-standing, strong community ties.
2019 was hard…
To be frank, 2019 was a very difficult year for the Board. Several board members moved away, went to graduate school, or had to step down due to other life commitments. This has left our representative body with only four people to make critically important decisions for the Co-op.
But, 2020 looks promising!
We are seeking 7 members-owners and 2 staff members for the 2020 Board elections so that we can focus on Mariposa’s future and what that means to our community. We had 500 people join the Co-op in 2019 for a total of 3,290 member-owners, so we’re excited about what this year’s elections will bring!
