  2. The Owner Services Coordinator will follow up to confirm your payment and the amount of equity you currently hold. Email ownership@mariposa.coop with any questions.

You do not need a PayPal account to make a payment, only a valid card. What is equity?

Equity is your investment into Mariposa Food Co-op and what makes you not just a member, but an owner with special benefits at the store. Equity is a one-time payment of $200 that can be paid all at once, or in installments of $25 every three months until you reach $200. Your equity is fully refundable if you choose to leave the Co-op, as long as Mariposa is in good financial health.

how do i know how much equity i hold?

Our cashiers can view your account status right at the register! If you want to know how much equity you hold, you can just ask next time you shop. If you have questions about equity or your previous payments, please reach out to Owner Services at ownership@mariposa.coop or 215-729-2121 x03.

How often will i be Reminded to pay?

While equity can be paid all at once in one $200 payment, most member-owners choose to pay in installments. One installment of equity is $25 and can be paid every three months either online or in-store, and you will receive reminders at the register. Once you reach $200, you will no longer be reminded to pay equity.

If you are a Food For All recipient, you will not be asked to make your first equity payment for one year. After one year, you will be asked to begin making payments of at least $10 every three months until you reach $100 of personal equity. You can do so online by selecting the “1 FFA Payment” option in the PayPal drop-down menu.

What is the difference between equity and Patronage refunds?

Equity is your investment into the Co-op and stays on your account, in your name unless you choose to leave. Equity is what entitles you to the benefits of member-ownership.

Patronage refunds are an added benefit for member-owners if Mariposa makes a profit at the end of the year. If we do turn a profit, the Board then decides if we can share any of these profits with our member-owners. If we can distribute, member-owners will receive a patronage refund in the spring based on how much they shopped in the previous year.
