Mariposa recognizes the barriers to accessing nutritious, affordable foods and is dedicated to increasing food access in our community through the Mariposa Owner Fund and Food For All programs.

To qualify for our food access programs, applicants must provide a valid ID and proof of need with one of the following eligibility documents:

  • Current SNAP card - Current Budget Sheet or Legal Notice of Eligibility
  • WIC documentation - WIC Card and Current Active WIC Check
  • SSI - Current awards letter
  • TANF Cash Assistance - Current Budget Sheet or Legal Notice of Eligibility
  • Medicaid - Current awards letter

Mariposa owners are welcome to apply to the Owner Fund and Food For All programs by completing both applications. We ask for one copy of eligibility to accompany both applications.

New! Food for All

Mariposa’s Food for All (FFA) program allows low-income owners to shop with a 10% discount every day. During our pilot year, the number of owners receiving the discount will be limited while we monitor the use and progress of the program.

Both new and current owners are eligible to apply for a FFA discount. To apply to FFA, applicants must provide a photo ID and proof of need (note, these documents will not be kept on file and will only be used for verification purposes). New owners must include an owner application or Owner Fund application. If Mariposa Owner Fund subsidies are unavailable or an owner denies the subsidy, FFA discount recipients may pay reduced equity payments of $10 every three months. After September of 2018, we hope to open the program to more owners.

How it works:

  • The 10% FFA discount is valid for one year. Applicants must reapply annually to continue to be a part of the program. If an FFA discount expires, Mariposa does not grant a retroactive discount, but applications can be resubmitted at any time.
  • FFA discounts cannot be shared.
  • FFA recipients are welcome to join our working owner program and will receive a 15% discount for 4 weeks upon completion of work shift. To become a working owner, please fill out a work shift interest form the next time you shop.

Please note, certain items such as gift cards and SEPTA key cards will not be discounted.

All applications can be emailed to ownership@mariposa.coop or dropped off in store. The Owner Services Coordinator will notify each applicant within three weeks of the submission date.

Mariposa Owner Fund

Mariposa's Owner Fund is used to subsidize $100 of the $200 equity requirement.

New owners and current owners who have not yet finished making their $200 equity investment may apply for a partial subsidy of $100. New owners are not required to contribute additional equity during their first year of ownership. After the first year, fund recipients may reapply and pay the remaining $100 on a reduced payment plan of $10 every three months to continue receiving owner benefits.

To apply, Mariposa Owner Fund applicants must provide a photo ID and proof of need (note, these documents will not be kept on file and will only be used for verification purposes). Owner Fund recipients are required to verify their eligibility on an annual basis in order to keep the subsidy. Applications are accepted at any time when funds are available.

All applications can be emailed to ownership@mariposa.coop or dropped off in store. The Owner Services Coordinator will notify each applicant within three weeks of the submission date.

Donate to the Owner Fund

Owners, shoppers, neighbors, local businesses and institutions are encouraged to contribute to the Mariposa Owner Fund in any amount. The larger the fund, the more we will be able to expand Co-op ownership to the populations who stand to benefit most from access to nutritious foods, community engagement, and cooperative business ownership. If you would like to donate, please make all checks payable to Mariposa Food Co-op. Checks can be mailed to Mariposa Food Co-op's Owner Services Department at 4824 Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143.
