Mariposa recognizes the barriers to accessing nutritious, affordable foods and is dedicated to increasing food access in the West Philadelphia neighborhood. Donated by current and former members, the Owner Fund is used to subsidize $100 of the $200 equity requirement.
Owners, shoppers, neighbors, local businesses and institutions are encouraged to contribute in any amount. The larger the fund, the more we will be able to expand Co-op ownership to the populations who stand to benefit most from access to nutritious foods, community engagement, and cooperative business ownership.
New owners and current owners who have not yet finished paying equity may apply for a partial subsidy of $100. Fund recipients pay the remaining $100 on a reduced payment plan of $10 every three months until they reach $100.
Applicants must be age 18 or older and possess one of the following:
Current SNAP recipient
Current recipient of federal/state cash assistance
Current recipient of Supplemental Security Income benefits
Part of a household with income at or below 100% of the Poverty Guidelines as defined by the US Dept. of Health & Human Services
Fund recipients will need to verify their eligibility on an annual basis in order to keep the subsidy. Fund recipients must inform Mariposa if there is a change in their financial situation that will allow them to make partial or full equity payments. You do not need to demonstrate proof of income.
If you would like to donate, please make all checks payable to Mariposa Food Co-op.
